Captain Cook Drive road upgrade – Temporary traffic changes between Gannons Road, Woolooware Road and Elouera Road
Roadworks to upgrade Captain Cook Drive as part of delivering a new shopping centre and a new Cronulla Sharks Leagues Club are well underway.
We thank you all for your patience and cooperation while the crews work to complete this important new infrastructure as quickly and safely as possible.
When complete, the works will improve access, safety and traffic flow for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians travelling through the area, and for users of the shopping centre and club.
The upgraded road will include a double lane carriageway in both directions, new intersections controlled by traffic lights and new pedestrian paths and cycleways.
Key changes are now in effect:
The roundabout at Woolooware Road has been removed
Single lane traffic is now in effect and will flow down the centre of the road, with concrete barriers at either side of Captain Cook Drive.
This means traffic is still not able to:
cross Captain Cook Drive at the Woolooware Road intersection
turn right out of Woolooware Road onto Captain Cook Drive
turn right from Captain Cook Drive into Woolooware Road
turn right from Captain Cook Drive into Cronulla Sharks Leagues Club
turn right from Cronulla Sharks Leagues Club into Captain Cook Drive
A temporary footpath and cycleway will be implemented on the western side of Captain Cook Drive and will be clearly signposted
A temporary footpath and cycleway will be implemented on the eastern side of Captain Cook Drive, and will terminate at the Sharks
A new footpath near the pedestrian crossing on Woolooware Road will provide additional access to Woolooware High School.
Access to car parking for the Sharks Leagues Club will still be available during roadworks but entry and exit will only be as above.
Access to Fitness First will initially be through Sharks carpark then transition to a new northern extension of Woolooware Road.
There is NO access to Fitness First via Caltex
For all other access, traffic will need to travel to either the existing Elouera Road or Gannons Road roundabouts and make u-turns.
A 40 km per hour speed limit applies for the duration of the roadworks and will be monitored and enforced where indicated via signage, between Gannons Road and Elouera Road.
Pedestrian access across Captain Cook Drive will be limited during roadworks.
What stays the same?
Access between Foreshore Boulevard and Captain Cook Drive at the existing traffic lights remains the same
Bus stop locations on either side of Captain Cook Drive near the Sharks and Foreshore Boulevard remain the same
